Validator Monitoring
on Polkadot & Kusama
Before Celestia, we operated validators and built per-era performance monitoring under the Web3 Foundation's 1KV and Decentralized Nodes programme.
What we operated
1KV Programme
Web3 Foundation's 1000 Validators initiative. Strict uptime, commission, and infrastructure requirements monitored continuously.
Decentralized Nodes
Evolution of 1KV with stricter standards. Geographic diversity, provider distribution, block production consistency per era.
Matrix Reporting
Per-era digests via Element rooms. Subscribe to any validator, receive automated performance reports every 6 hours.
Monitoring metrics
Per-era analysis across the full validator lifecycle.
Authored blocks per era vs expected rate. Warning at 5%, critical at 15%.
ratio = produced / expected
Explicit votes on parachain assignments. Low scores reduce backing rewards.
score = votes / assignments
Session-level via I'm Online pallet. Offline triggers nomination risk.
uptime = online / total
Silent raises flagged high-severity. Full history for trust scoring.
Equivocation and unresponsiveness. Exposure analysis across nominators.
Node version, provider, geography. Centralization risks flagged across set.
Per-era reports
Every era (~6h Kusama, ~24h Polkadot), the system compiled a performance digest delivered via Matrix. Operators subscribed and received actionable data automatically.
